Course description

SolidWorks is a powerful 3D CAD software developed by Dassault Systèmes, designed for modelling, simulation, and documentation in mechanical engineering. It allows engineers and designers to create precise 3D models of parts and assemblies, perform motion and stress analysis, check manufacturability, and generate 2D drawings. SolidWorks supports parametric modelling, which means designs can be easily modified by changing dimensions or relationships. It is commonly used in industries like automotive, aerospace, robotics, machinery, and product development due to its user-friendly interface, extensive toolset, and strong integration with CAM and simulation tools.

What will i learn?

  • Ability to create 3D parts and assemblies. Skill in producing professional engineering drawings. Knowledge of simulation, sheet metal, and surface tools. Improved design accuracy with parametric modeling. Industry-ready skills for CAD, design, and engineering jobs.

Requirements

  • Windows 64-bit OS with 16–32 GB RAM. Dedicated graphics card (NVIDIA/AMD recommended). Minimum i5/i7 or Ryzen processor. Basic mechanical and 2D/3D geometry knowledge. Internet connection for installation and updates.

Frequently asked question

SolidWorks is a 3D CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software used to create parts, assemblies, and engineering drawings. It helps engineers design, analyse, and simulate mechanical products.

Parametric modelling means designs are controlled by parameters (dimensions, relations). Changing a dimension will automatically update the model.

The Feature Tree (Feature Manager) shows the history of operations like sketches, extrudes, cuts, fillets, etc. It helps in editing and managing model features.

A fillet is a rounded edge added to remove sharp corners and improve design strength.

Shell removes material from inside a model, leaving thin walls used for plastic parts, casings, etc.
